Balance 2020: half a million euros for a good cause

Ahlen-based children’s charity LR Global Kids Fund e.V. once again increases its donations

Ahlen (North Rhine-Westphalia), 24 June 2021.

For the third time in the charity’s history, the LR Global Kids Fund e.V. gathered a total of more than half a million euros in donations. Compared to the previous year, donations increased by a double-digit percentage. In 2020, one national and 16 international aid projects were successfully supported with a total of over 400,000 euros. In addition, the LR Global Kids Fund e.V. has a total of 1,193 supporting members who give regularly.

National project:
support for the RTL-Kinderhaus in Ahlen further expanded

In 2020, the RTL telethon for “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.” celebrated its 25th anniversary. The LR Global Kids Fund took part for the fifth time and was once again able to hand over a donation of 200,000 euros. Due to the increased need, the donation by the LR Global Kids Fund to “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.” went in its entirety to the Ahlen-based charity RTL-Kinderhaus Lunch Club e.V. Due to the ever-changing rules for childcare during the corona pandemic, the Ahlen Lunch Club e.V. had to adjust its range of offers. For instance, the regular study club was turned into a phone club, which allowed children to collaborate on homework in a home-schooling environment.

There are currently 18 RTL-Kinderhäuser across Germany, which all receive long-term support from the charity “Stiftung RTL – Wir helfen Kindern e.V.” Here, youngsters receive a healthy meal, help with homework, and they can also engage in free educational and leisure activities. “The pandemic and the associated restrictions on gatherings are seriously challenging for many children. Which is why the projects supported by the LR Global Kids Fund are more important than ever before,” says Andreas Friesch, chairman of the Ahlen-based children’s charity.

Substantial sums of international aid money gathered

Last year, the donations, which support 16 international aid projects, amounted to 195,000 euros. A total of 125,000 euros were spent on nine different international projects. In France, for instance, exercise and breathing camps were held for children suffering from cystic fibrosis. In Bulgaria, children with physical and mental development deficits received dedicated support from professionals. In Hungary, children from lower-income families were offered language courses to learn German and English. Since trips abroad with language crash courses became impossible due to the pandemic, the language camps took place in Hungary. In addition, a new collaboration with the Swiss charity “Theodora Stiftung e.V.” was launched. The charity aims to cheer up children in hospital with moments of joy and laughter.
The SOS Children’s Villages received a total of 70,000 euros in funding. This allowed disadvantaged children to access education, to engage in creative activities and to play sports. The money also paid for educational and psychological assistance for children. In 2020, a total of 450 children from Children’s Villages in seven different countries benefited from bespoke educational and health -
promoting offers.

“I’m incredibly proud that we managed to increase the sum total of donations compared to the previous
year, despite COVID-19,” beams Friesch.
